Annual Report on SIGSEM, January 2003
Patrick Blackburn and Harry Bunt
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The biggest SIGSEM event held in the six months since the last report
was made to the ACL (in June 2002) was IWCS-5, the fifth International
Workshop in Computational Semantics. As usual, this was hosted by
Tilburg University, and took place from January 15-17, 2003 in
Tilburg, the Netherlands. The workshop was well attended (there were
about 70 participants) and it is clear that the event has become a
regular part of the computational linguistics calender.
In addition to the regular IWCS workshop, on Tuesday January 14, the
day before the start of IWCS-5, there was the first meeting of the
SIGSEM Working Group on Multimodal Meaning Representation. All IWCS-5
participants were invited to attend this meeting. More information
about the meeting will soon be available on the SIGSEM website
(www.sigsem.org).
The next event organised by SIGSEM will be ICoS-4, the fourth
International Workshop on Inference in Computational Semantics. This
will be held in Nancy, France, in September 2003. The first Call for
papers will shortly be released. It is intended to combine ICoS-4 with
a one day school on Description Logics.
SIGSEM is currently holding its election (for President,
Secretary, and four Information Officers). Nominations close on 15
February 2003.
